Cancer is a deadly disease that has compassion for no one. It transcends cultures, races, places, and may one day touch someone we know. Help us fight cancer in our community.
There are many unsung heroes in our community. Maui's own Willie K is one of them. For the past five years, he has hosted the Willie K Charity Golf Tournament to benefit an important cause: The Maui Memorial Medical Center Oncology Department.
Since its inception, the Oncology Department has been dedicated to better understanding human cancers and finding more effective treatments. Today, they continue to serve the needs of our community, touching the lives of so many residents and visitors.
Thanks to Willie, our event sponsors and participants, the Willie K Golf Tournament has raised over $100,000 for the Oncology Department at Maui Memorial. These funds have been used to purchase valuable equipment for cancer patients. In addition, the Oncology Department was able to create a fund to assist patients in severe financial need with such items as inter-island travel to receive necessary treatments, grocery store coupons for food and supplies, rent and utility assistance. While it's a start, much more is needed to maintain and enhance the healthcare provided to you, your family and friends here on Maui; and to fight this deadly disease.
